Arrival of the Kingdom: Revelation 21



If you could give one room in your house a "makeover" which room would you choose? What would you do?

If you could give one part of your life a "makeover" what would you choose? What would you do?

Read Revelation 21:1. Why do you think God needs to give the world a "makeover"? What things most need to change?

What are some ways you have observed sin and the presence of sin impacting your life and the lives of people around you?

Read Revelation 21:2-4. Which part of the new heaven and new earth is most appealing to you? Why?

What advantage is there to living in the presence of God? Can you think of any experiences that might help to illustrate what this will be like?

Read Revelation 21:5. What has Jesus done to "make all things new?" How did His work on the cross make things new? What else has He done?

What part of your life has already been made new because of your relationship with Jesus? What part of your life do you think He wants you to work on next?

Read Revelation 21:7. What do you think it means to be "victorious?" Who or what is being defeated? How have you experienced victory in your spiritual life? How have you experienced defeat?

How can this "TEAM" work together to ensure each person experiences victory? What can you contribute to your teammates? What do you need from them?

How will you make yourself over this week?

Community Killers: Crisis

Here is Part Two in my series on dealing with "Community Killers". Today the topic is "Crisis". Every group experiences crisis at some point. Death, illness, divorce, and financial ruin are just some of the issues that can threaten to destroy a group. These crisis, however, are not to be feared. Rather, they should be embraced as an opportunity for the group to care for one another in unique and deeply meaningful ways. The following are five suggestions (certainly not an exhaustive list) which can help a group handle crisis successfully: Openness. FIGHT CLUB! (iron sharpening iron)

Our youth pastor, Keith Sandison, has implemented "Fight Clubs" with the young men of our church. While these teenagers and young adults aren't actually pummeling each other physically, they are using the opportunity to aggressively challenge one another to be more attentive to their spiritual formation. Right now my son is participating in a fight club focusing on Proverbs. I love it. Keith has created a handout he uses for the fight clubs which lists seven different methods of "generic Bible study". I think the idea started with this post a few years ago, but as he often does; Keith took my thoughts and made them immensely more substantive and beneficial. Check out his system below:
