Upcoming Dates

This fall our church will be going through the Old Testament during our Sunday morning gatherings. The sermons will all work together to present a chronological view of the "first section" of God's amazing story. Although we are not producing any specific curriculum for this series, we have pulled together several small group resources your group can use to compliment our Sunday sermons. These materials are available in The Cove, so check them out if you are interested.

The following dates are the important dates for this fall's "Quest":
  • August 26 -- Registration Ends
  • September 2 -- Quest Guide Published
  • September 9 -- Quest Begins
  • September 9 -- LG Summit 1
  • September 26 -- LG Summit 2
  • October 7,14,21,28 -- Link-Up at 10:45am
  • November 4 -- One Day Link-Up from 10:45am-2pm
  • November 4 -- LG Summit 3
  • November 18 -- Baptism
  • December 16 -- Quest Ends
Remember: You are not expected to attend all three Summits (although you are welcome to). We are asking that you attend at least one of the three during the fall.

FIGHT CLUB! (iron sharpening iron)

Our youth pastor, Keith Sandison, has implemented "Fight Clubs" with the young men of our church. While these teenagers and young adults aren't actually pummeling each other physically, they are using the opportunity to aggressively challenge one another to be more attentive to their spiritual formation. Right now my son is participating in a fight club focusing on Proverbs. I love it. Keith has created a handout he uses for the fight clubs which lists seven different methods of "generic Bible study". I think the idea started with this post a few years ago, but as he often does; Keith took my thoughts and made them immensely more substantive and beneficial. Check out his system below:

SOAPY Bible Study

In the past, I've written about and talked about the SOAP method of Bible study. This is a simple Bible study method which can be utilized by an individual or a small group. All you need is a passage of Scripture and 15-30 minutes (a journal is helpful). Many churches use this method of Bible study for their groups. Some have modified the SOAP method by adding a Y. This form of study will assist in the transformation of our inner lives as we mature in understanding and in faith. Set aside 15 minutes every day for the study.
